Chris McCool
Director / Photographer
I’m a young director and photographer, currently studying at the North West Regional College. I previously studied (and passed) the level 3 UAL Art and Design course, where I developed and gained clear skills in both photography and directing. Whilst I’m still new to directing, I have previously directed film scenes for school projects using my Kodak Camera and edited using Photoshop and other applications on my laptop. In relation to my photography experience, I’ve completed two NWRC photography exhibitions and won the Derry Credit Union Teen photography competition.
My goal is to develop more knowledge and experience as a director, either through the theory aspect or practical hands-on experience through a short film or a small internet promotional video. Ideally, I would like to develop more practical skills in directing as I feel that whilst I have a few years of experience in photography, it is the directing element that I am drawn towards.
One of the reasons that has drawn me to this course is a comment made by someone I worked with: “It was very fun, you were very clear and direct with your ideas yet still open to changes and great with editorial work and capturing a nice vibe.”
I hope to work more with short films and character pieces, but I am open to doing any experience possible at any level in the hope of achieving my goal of gaining experience in the directing industry.
